I don't ride a whole lot anymore. I live vicariously through the travel logs of the contributors to Rider magazine. While there are a lot of shorter trips in Rider, I don't see a lot of "epic journeys". Did you ever take an "epic journey"? To where? How long did it last? Would you do it again?

Kentucky and back. On this one trip, spent time at Sturgis, visited the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, caught the Art of the Motorcycle at the Pyramid in Memphis, visited B-I-L in St. Louis, realized I was only 30 miles from Carhenge, so made a side trip, and spent the last 22 hrs on the road, covering about 1200 miles. Not sure if that is epic, but was certainly memorable, and I would go again in a minute.

Look up Horizons Unlimited, for some real epic rides.

Yes, that is absolutely epic. I consider motorcycle miles much more of an accomplishment than automobile miles.

Blatherbeard, you're supposed to leave early in the AM (cooler in TX), then ride 12-16 hrs, or until you start shaking. Hah!

I once rode from Hermosillo, Mexico to Colo. Springs in 16 hrs (1,100 miles). Slept the whole next day.

The longest ride miles wise for me was a 3 day trip across Texas to Deridder, Louisiana. I think the total miles over the 3 days was only 780 miles. I never thought it would be so tiring when broken up over three days, but man i was beat after getting back home.

The hours longest trip was from Austin To Camp Wood Tx then Back again, or my round trip from Austin, To dallas up 35, then back home Via Dfw. Not sure of the miles but the first one took me from noon to midnight and the second one was a 1 or 2 pm til 3am ride.

You can drive a car cross country and it doesn't seem rough at all, but a bike trip is another matter. Of course, you wander around off the beaten path a lot more on a bike, staying off the interstates.

I've had a few epic adventures on my bikes: 15 years ago I rode from my home here thru most of South America on my '85 ElectraGlide. Took 3 months, rode over 21,000 miles, and wore out 4 sets of tires. Bike never skipped a beat even going thru 18" deep stream crossings repeatedly. Folks kept saying "Only ze burro can make it!"

Rode to Alaska and back home last year. 6,000 miles on my '08 StreetGlide with wife on back. We LOVE Alaska, bad roads and all. Wildlife is amazing--scenery even more so. Only a cracked windshield after hitting a bird on that trip.

This year in April and May, we rode across all the Canadian provinces (west to east) to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Roads are excellent there with little traffic, plenty of great little motels and cottages along the way, and some of the most scenic lakes I've ever been to. Can't imagine a more idyllic place to live (log cabin on a lake) for my remaining years. Unfortunately, my wife got sick on this trip, and had to fly home. 6,700 perfect miles on the StreetGlide.
Did see a broken BMW rider (beyond our help) and another broken-and-abandoned one along the back roads in Ontario (rear wheel broke off). Never did see the guy walking.

Last year my wife and I took a 10 day trip from Minnesota (home base) down to Colorado and spent 5 days doing a loop around the state. Around 3800 miles. I also took a 7 day solo trip to New Mexico from Minnesota. Awesome trip but froze my but off getting home. Drove 850 miles in 1 day with rain and 48 degrees for about 500 miles and then 35-42 degress, but clear skys, the last 300 miles.

This year we took a 10 day trip from Minnesota down to Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Wonderful trip.

Tommorrow I leave for a 2 week solo trip from Minnesota down to the Southwest. General plan is to explore Utah, shoot over to Death Valley, come back by the Grand Canyon and depending on weather come home thru Colorado or what ever the weather dictates.

We always camp on our journeys. Seems to make it more of an adventure.

lol, i hear you man. Unfortunately i come from a state where 2pm is hotter than 5pm and didnt realize that it was 5pm hotter than Hades! lol

We had to get our car from where we broke down so there wasnt much choice either, and when faced with bike or borrowing a cage, ill take a long hard bike ride!
