I've been looking around the Net for a resonably priced Motorcycle Compass. My definition of reasonably priced is way under $20! There was nothing out there! Oh, I found a nice one for $30.00 but the part to attach it to the handlebar was an additional $60.00! I said screwit and stopped looking. I'm not cheap, I just don't think a plastic compass should cost that much! I figured the reason they sell for the ridiculouse high price is because people will pay the high price price. They were even way too high priced for motorcycles on eBay!

Then it dawned on me, I should look for a compass for serious bicycle riders! ebay had them! Liquid filled, black or white faced, made of black composite material (plastic) ready to fit handle bars from 7/8" to 1". Price, INCLUDING S&H for $8.00! I got mine today and figured I would just pass on the info.

I find it amazing at the prices for "Motorcycle" accessories and other things like engine oil! I used to cough up $50 to $60 for an oil change on my ride....I say used to. I can do it for under $10. There is no reason why engine oil for a motorcycle has to cost what's being charged out there. I guess it's "what the market will bear kind of thing".

Great idea for a compass, I'll have to look for a bicycle one. I carry a cheap hand held compass in my luggage but of course have to stop to check it. You know how us motorcycle travelers hate to stop......

No problem, glad to be of help. I believe there is too much price gouging with anything to do with motorcycles. Just add the words "for a motorcycle" and expect to pay through the nose for many or most items!
On the other hsnd, I have found some items that I though were reasonably priced. I don't mind spending my money but, not when I think it's a rip off like 90+ bucks for a compass!

Hey Vstar-Guy, have you thought about a gps unit? I know it's more than a compass, but it's more usable since you can use it in your car or bike.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi (last years model) from Tiger Direct for $90. Came with a cigarette lighter plug that works great on both, as my FLHX has a cigarette lighter. Plus, it gives you the accurate speed you're going and a compass heading with a bunch of other neat features. It's a kick to use.

Almost forgot. Regarding special oil for motorcycles: don't waste your money. You can buy synthetic oils (20-50w) made for cars at Wal-mart a lot cheaper. I seriously doubt there is any difference other than the price. Been using Mobile 1 15-50w in all my bikes for years. Walmart sells a 5 qt. jug for $19.... that's less than $4/qt.
