Windshields and fairings are fine on sportbikes, but I hate them on cruisers. Mainly, I can't stand looking through them. If I had one it would have to be short enough to look over, then it wouldn't be all that effective. Just my opinion, but windshields don't look right at all when you match them with apehangers.

I have 16" apes and I am 6 feet tall. They are perfect. Have put 5-600 miles in a day with 'em, and no windshield. Love the bars, but when I am on the road I couldn't give a **** what the bike looks like, I want a windshield.

Yeah, I started rolling with Apehangers on a Harley Road King five years ago after a vacation in San Diego where I saw some riders on the strip. I live in Oklahoma, but it took a long bike ride to Austin, Texas for me to really try them. With normal handlebars, other than the usual sore buns, I had this incredible burning in my shoulders that felt like I was being stabbed. I changed to Apehangers the minute I made it back home and the stabbing pain high in the shoulders is gone. I'm 6'3" and used to work out in my 20's and 30's so maybe that had something to do with it. I went to Apes on my next Road King--both times 18's--but now I've gone to the 17-inch Z-bar. It's total sweetness! The shame of it is that I still get the question "Don't those things make your arms tired, or your shoulder hurt?" Au contraire, my friend! Usually I calmly answer "No," but the real question is, "Do you think I'm stupid enough to put myself at risk when riding is risky enough?"

I have 12.5" apes on my Heritage Springer. With the 3.75" stock risers they are about 16". I am 6'1" and they are at shoulder level. Bike handles great! I have ridden two up for several long trips that included 950 miles in one day. No problem with arms, wrists, or hands. I previously had problems going 50 miles without my back muscles getting sore. These allow one to sit up straight and really carve the curves. There are about 12 members of our Heritage Springer group who have changed over to the 12.5s" and love em. Just some thoughts.
