Rider magazine is maybe the best bike mag. I really enjoy the touring stories. However, I would like to see a little more information on the bikes in the articles. Such as, gas mileage, mechanical problems, any relibility problems, etc. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this?

As my name implies, I ride a cruiser. I aubscribe to Rider and Cruiser magazines and enjoy both of them.
I agree with your suggestion. I too are more interested in
more info on gas mileage and gas type, mechanical problems and any relibility problems by brand and model etc.

I have been reading Rider since around 1990 and I have always counted on Rider for a good read on all things motorcycle.
The only thing I would want to see is "more of it"
A thicker mag would be good. I can read the whole thing in one sitting.
Maybe a reprint of most popular topics or ground breaking articles in the bike world. The retro section is cool but to short. I would like to reread some the old scribles from Grodsky.
There is alot that has been printed and never heard from again.

Hey Stinky41,
As I may have stated in previouse posts, I subscribe to three motorcycle magazines, Rider, Cruiser and Motorcycle Consumer.
It takes a certain "skill" to read Rider and Cruiser magazine.
One has to be aware that those publications, as good as they are, have a business responsibility to their providers, clients, IE. sponsors, like motercycle manufacturers, motorcycle parts and accessory manufacturers etc.
So logically thinking, what they report on could be just a little
"tempered" to maintain some balance ......and keep their coffers full! That being said, Motorcycle Comsumer magazine, somewhat akin to but not related to, Comsumer reports, who just tells it like it is!
No holds barred with that rag, because like motorcycle Consumer, they are beholden only to the consumer. They don't beat on the product makers who make poor products, but you can rest assurd they don't use any velvet gloves in their approach either.

Thanks vstar
I agree. Whatever you read in any mag that makes a profit from the people that make bikes and accessories, has to be taken with a grain of salt. Even if it is just one grain. In the past I have read several articles that I thought could have been given a bit more of a negetive write up.
I actually bought my current ride after reading the write up in rider, even after they ripped into to it a bit. I found they were spot on.

In the early 70's I read an issue of "Popular Mechanics". It featured a very large spread about Mazda's Wankle engine. The whole spread was very pro about the new engine. Everything about the engine and the three cars available with the Wankle, the Rx2, Rx3 and the Rx4,
Incidentally, the Rx3 was the bottom of the line, the Rx2 was the middle of the line and Rx4 was the top of the line. Why? I could never get an answer. LOL later the Rx7 a sports model came along.
I remember it sold for $9,000.00! that was a hunk of money to me in the 70's, It still is a hunk of money today. I needed to get another car so, I bought a demo Rx3.
I must say the car was well made, fit and finish were excellent but,
it was a PIG on gas, a BIG PIG at that. (12 MPG) (14 MPG in the Summer) The Wankle engine as I recall has six spark plugs, three for Prime firing and 3 for secondary firing! Those plugs were special and cost $2.75 each! All of the Prime plugs (3) were
controlled by one distributor and one set of points! All of the Secondary plugs (3) were controlled by another distributor and a separate set of points. Are you ready for this? there was a third distributor and separate set of points that controlled the two subordinate distributors!!! It was a Rube Goldberg nightmare!
My 67' Buick Sportwagon gave better MPG than the Mazda Rx3. The first gas crunch hit in 73' and I was driving a damned furnace! LOL! To boot, I learned that, everything published by "Popular Mechanics" "PM" about the Mazda Wankle was bogus, it was all just plain BS. I'm sure "PM" made a bundle of $$$ from Mazda too.
BTW, did you know the analysis of the 9/11 tragedy was conducted and published my "Popular Mechanics"? I for one, am not the least bit surprised!
The lesson I learned? Never believe all that you read from a publication when the publication accepts advertisements!
That goes for all publications, especially "PM"
