...I think the sportster is targeted at the female rider...'cuz it's smaller, supposedly lower and lighter and less powerfull...
...I think my Heritage has a lower seat than the sporty....

..having had a sporty for several years....I think the big twin is a much easier bike to handle....

..the sporty does have it's moments....it is what it is....cheaper !!!!
..plus H-D knows...that people that buy a sporty will eventually be back to buy a big twin..so in essence...they get a two for one sale....good bizness...

I never rode a sportster, so I can 't even comment on the bike's finer points. When I first saw the 48' I was not impressed. Being a little long-in-tooth compared to the target market for the 48' , I know its not for me anyway. Having said that, I am starting to feel like the boys at HD are trying different combinations of parts they already have on the shelf to make a few so-called 'new' models. C'mon , its like Taco Bell making 40 menu items from the same four ingredients.

..I agree...that has always been H-D modi operandi...dig thru' the parts bin and mix and match....then give it some new undecipherable name...

....the new FXGLRTFSPT....also known as the new TwinCamRenovatedmadeoverSturgismodelfrom1990....

I always tell chicks, or new riders in general not to get a Sporty. They have a high center of gravity making them less stable than any of the big twins. Most people think they are a starter bike because they are smaller, engine wise and size wise. Not the case. I have seen more women start on a Fatboy, or FXR than a Sporty. And, once you get comfortable, you don't feel the need for more bike. Sportys have their place, they are fun, and very customizable.

Well OK, but refine the beast--don't just make it look older than it already feels. And that's a fact Jack!

I like the retro look and think they are doing a good job with the Nightster and Iron.
