On Sept. 24th, my wife and I departed DeLand, FL for a 5 week New England Autumn ride. Two up on my Ultra Classic Electraglide pulling an American Legend cargo trailer, the weather was cool and cloudy the first day out. The second day out we hit rain in north Georgia and 7 out of the next 8 days was all rain. It rained all through NC and VA, rained through DE and all the way to the Jersey Shore. My wife wanted to see NY city, so on a Sunday morning, to beat the traffic, we headed into the city in a driving rain and heavy fog. Went to the top of the Empire State Bldg. where visability was near zero, dodged increasingly heavy traffic and heavy rain as we circled Central Park, and headed out of town toward PA. Heavy rain during 2 days of touring Bucks County, PA, then had nice weather as we cruised north on Toconic St. Pkwy in NY and then East on the Mohawk Trail in northern MA. The next day we headed into Maine where it rained all the way to Bangor where we stayed the night. Woke up to heavy rain and rode in the rain to Bar Harbor where it finally cleared up. Beautiful weather as we toured Acadia Natl. Park and the weather remained clear and very cool (40's & 50's) as we rode to the White Mountains region of NH. We toured NH, VT and up state NY for the next several days, then spent 2 full days broke down and sitting in a Harley shop in Warwick, RI. One day of very nice riding across northern CT, then broke down again and spent the day in a Harley shop in New Windsor, NY. The bike was finally running like a top as we rode south along the Hudson River, took a very interesting tour of West Point Military Academy then rode to Port Jervis where we stayed the night. Heading south on Hwy 209 through the Delaware Water Gap area of PA we suddenly slammed into a large deer that ran into our path at about 10 AM. We went down hard. My wife suffered a broken leg that required surgery and I suffered a broken rib, lacerated spleen, broken nose and 2 dislocated fingers. We were hospitalized in East Stroudsburg, PA where I was in the ICU for 4 days then helecoptered in the middle of the night to a hospital in Allentown for an emergency procedure to stop the bleeding in my spleen. My wife amd I were both discharged after 11 days in the hospital and good friends in North Carolina drove up to PA in a motorhome pulling a trailer and loaded us and our wrecked motorcycle up and drove us home. Currently recuperating and checking out new bikes.

Halfway thru your post I started wondering, "who did he piss-off"?
the Rain God! Further down in the post I began to ask, can this be true? Man that was a bummer. The only good thing I can think of that happened is that you and your wife are ok! What kind of bike problems did you encounter with your bike? Did you ride the Kangamangus Hiway in NH? I did that in a car, it has to be more awesome on a bike! When you went to Bar Harbor, did you ride up to Cadillac Mt? I did that in a car too, I wont do it on a bike, anything over 20' and I get queasy. Glad you and your wife made it back safely. I guess now, you really need a vacation. Thanks for sharing. It sounded like a lot of work to me.
