Saturday afternoon, one of our foster daughters wants to spend the night with a friend, so we have to check out the family. Since my daughter is the primary parent for these kids, she has to go, and decides she wants to ride. Not ready to take a passenger, so I have to go. Rough life sometimes. We go to the church parking lot for some 'low speed' checkups, and when I am satisfied we head out. After dropping her off, we head out to Enumclaw. I am watching my daughter closely, it has been sometime since she has been out. She is doing well, good lane placement, steady speed control. We meander thru the small town, it is a wonderful day to ride, warm, great visibility of Mt. Rainier, lots of bikes out, and I pull over and ask how she is doing? She says, great. I ask if she wants to stop at Wally's in Buckley, (cool little drive in) or head out to Carbonado for tacos. She is in for tacos, and off we go. We get to the Carbonado Saloon, and it is closed!!! Jon, the new owner comes out, apologizes profusely, and says he is waiting for the final health inspection. Long story, check the Facebook page for updates, and we head back into Wilkeson to the Pick & Shovel for burgers. About 15 bikes out front, incuding 2 Shovel Hardtails, with kick starts. Good burgers, and back on the road. Turn off SR 165 onto SR 162, before we get to Buckley, and head towards Orting. I apparently fergot my jacket, so my daughter lent me her extra sweater, with her school name across the front in PINK! Lesseee, warm and girly, or cold and manly; if there is no evidence, it didn't happen. Nice ride home, stunning sunset, not too many photos, will post them up later this week.

Closed, so sad....

Mt. Rainier, same location, different zoom. (pro photo talk, I think...)

Its so cool seeing snocapped mountains in the distance from somewhere warm enough to ride. Reminds me of driving to the grand canyon a few weeks ago and it being 75+ but yet the snow was still capping the mountains.

Nice pics, nice ride.

That sure is a purdy Heritage your daughter is riding Slow. Nice shot of Rainier too. Snow is all brown and dirty looking on the mountains here. Someone said that all the dirt came from an earthquake in Mongolia, and was carried in the atmosphere until it snowed here. We had to wash brown mud off the cars parked outside for a couple days.

Blatherbeard, I went on a ride to the Grand Canyon (north rim) a couple years ago in early May, and got there to find the gate locked across the road saying "Closed". We thought it would be open all year like the South Rim, but found out otherwise. Since our luck was so good up to that point, we were blown-away when 2 girls rode up on Harleys and told us they work at the Havasupai Lodge, but it (the North Rim) would not open to the public for a couple more weeks.

My buddy's charm got them to open the gate for us and give us the combination to the gate lock so we could get back out later. We all rode together the 25 miles to the Lodge where they had to go to work, and my buddy and I got to hike along the rim while we were the only ones there.

When leaving, we knew that since the gate was still locked, there would be no cops or Highway Patrol out on that 25 miles, so we nailed it to see what top-end looked like, blowing past the park's ticket booth at 125. That was a ride to remember.

Man, it was hot here today! Got up to 90, and we're at 8,000 ft in this town so that's very hot for us. Anyway, after I got home and finished dinner, I took the scoot for a ride around town and left the helmet home. By 8:00 it had dropped to 65 degrees. Oh that feels so good!

Here's a first. 350 miles in a U-Haul. Blanking HOG tow is only good for closest dealer. Don't work when yer 350 miles from home, and yer charging system takes a powder, and you absolutely, positively have to be at work Tuesday am. But the Harley wasn't alone, the BMW GS was pumping oil out the front mail seal, so my scooter had company for the trip.
