RE: 3/4 vs full face helmet

I crashed and burned a long time ago and i had a 3/4 and a long bill shade on my lid. I ended up sliding on my chest backwards and that was when the bill caught the ground and pulled my face up just enough for the ground to open a 2 in gash in my chin. I had tennis shoes on and they being made of moslty nylon, melted into the tops of my toes. All my other crashes i've been lucky enough to roll baby roll and come up standing. By the way is a non moving drop of the bike considered a crash?... I no longer wear tennis shoes when i ride, only steel toe boots for me. Well i've said enough later ya'all i gotta take a 75 mile round trip to work in this 100 degree heat and humidity..... hawg gone...ya'all...

RE: Engine light

I placed the order for those 2 fuel lines, yes 2 fuel lines for 133.00 and they are chromed/stainless wrapped. I purchased them from "AXIOM" they carry alot of harley parts etc. so now i sit and wait for the parts.... Well Hawg out for now.

RE: Miles per year?

If it's a nice long ride I'll use harley's web sight to get directions (sometimes stealers are good for somethin'). You can also adjust the directions as you go through the map, making it easy (short) or better (longer) of a trip as you want. Try it out. It's cool. Hawg out Great day for a short run.....

RE: Engine light

You aint kiddin' when it comes to these new scoots, man, if it weren't for a lap top and a scanalyzer I wouldn't know where to start. I had a thought the other day, (don't laugh, and yes just a little thought). The Stealer wants both arms now a days for any work they do. Well back to my thought. I brought the scoot from Arizona. Could i be an altitude thing?...... So I thought (yes it did hurt my head) what if i just unplug the battery so it can reset the brain for a little bit. You know what...? It worked no more "engine" light. But now I have two fuel hoses leaking.... I decided since one was leaking and I was replacing the rubber o rings any way why not replace both... There I go again thinking PM (preventative maintenance). Well apparently when you take these hoses off to put the little o ring on you mess up the inaccessable one inside the hose. So now i did all that work and have a worse leak. The stealers wants 180.00 each for the hoses which are the some ol' blah looking ones. I found a set of better looking ones on the net for 133.00 and they're braided stainless and chrome. So now i'm going to either rig something or save some dukies for some new hardware. Either way i'm fixin' it. Well enough that's it for now i got tah get back to work... Hawg out.... Later ya'all ride safety smart.

RE: Miles per year?

Sure that would be cool, Blatherbeard. I like the ride to austin it's a little twisty and there are some hills. I really would like to go from here to bandera county. they say the ride is really nice, along with the scenic view. My 1999 flhp needs some work before i can take a long ride with it but my vstar still works great, never a bad problem with it, just needs a tune up and a few worn out gaskets replaced. I'll yak at ya later Hawg gone it's gonna rain a little this weakend so i need to through a cover on the bike i'm not riding....

RE: Engine light

It's the engine light. The oil light goes off as soon as I start it and never has it flickered. I checked that first because no oil in a running engine is mucho bad. I have been looking at a "scanalyzer" the cheapest I've found is $210.00 and it comes with software to see what is going on with the bike. It's going to have to wait for a little bit though, still catching up after my vacation. Meanwhile I'll ride the vstar (dependable) untill i figure it out. Some one mentioned pulling the crankcase position sensor and cleaning it because it gathers debree on the end. It's worth a try, Hawg gone I see rain in the forecast.

RE: Miles per year?

They wanted to do that sleep test on me too but after getting a tempur pedic I sleep just fine. I still snore like a bear but i sleep good. Just hit 54k on my Vstar classic. Time for a tune up and some gaskets (the valve covers are leaking). I have a second scoot now so i can actually take some time and do some maintenance work to the v-star. Hawg out. see ya rolling down the pavement.

Engine light

I just picked up a 1999 flhp. I have a question to any one out there. The "engine" light comes on while i'm going down the road. When i stop it will turn off and then come back on and then off agian when i start to go again. What's the deal? Do I have a Oil problem or is something going on with the computer. I really want to keep the scooter, my Dad gave it to me use because he figured i could use for my job. If i have to spend a lot to fix it i may as well give it back and have him get some money out of it. My Yamahawg has 53k on it and never messes up. This flhp has only twenty five hundred miles on it. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Miles per year?

Before i was diagnosed with diabetes i would fall asleep riding down the road. Now i don't do that any more. I used to joke that my scoot knew the way home but when i fell asleep with my wife on the back going up an overpass and almost home we decided i needed to be checked out. I don't fall asleep anymore and i'm loosing weight because i'm sleeping and eating rigtht. My wife actually wants to ride with me again, yeeeaaaahhhh. Hawg out for now.

RE: aviod joe rocket

Wow, man change your boot makers. I shop at academy for my bike boots, but then again i don't ride dirt. I do spend the extra bucks on a good set of steel toes. I hope they iether replace or refund your money. I'm steppin' out . ... .. Hawg gone......

RE: 3/4 vs full face helmet

I agree w/BlatherHead, I too am claustorfobic and don't like a full helmet. I wear a half lid and I always will because i can see and hear a lot better with it. I'll wear the 3/4 but not unless i really have to I just like the half lid. You never know when it's your turn to go, so why not live and ride the way you want to. later ya'all..... Hawg gone...

RE: Miles per year?

Well if they would serve the amount of good food for the price I got at "overpass cafe" then i'ld really get fat and spoiled.....L.O.L. I have to agree though the Denny's here in Rosenberg is pretty good and the service is good too. I wish I was still in Tucson though because the weather is perfect for riding and you can't beat the scenic drives around the mountains and hills. Well I'll post my new scoot on this sight when i get the chance, till then I'm off to see the wizard of blacktops and twisty turns. Hawg out.

RE: Miles per year?

Wow what a ride.... I just got back from tucson arizona, I actually took off two weeks from my day job and went on vacation. I stayed with my dad who lives in tucson. while there we went to some of the regular attractions, malls, caves, museums and of course 4th street. the only disappointment was when we stopped for a bite at two of the Denny's restruants in tucson. Man they burnt food and got orders wrong, it was the worst denny's we've every been to. My Dad kept saying we should go to a place called "The Overpass Cafe", well we gave in on the last day we were there and man..... I tell ya what if i knew the food was so good we would have ate there every day. Not only was it great food but to feed 10 people only cost us 70 bucks. The place is down home great! So if ya'all find yourself in tucson and hungry go to the Overpass Cafe (but get there early because they open at 6am and close at 2pm).Well i'm gone for now, see ya'all on the streets.... hawg gone...

RE: Miles per year?

When i lived in Tucson i rode everyday and had a few different choices of rides. I liked my yamaha enduro because i could be cruzin along and then decide i wanted to on a nature ride. no prob. Houston is very humid and rains alot. I still get alot of riding time. I love to ride, my wife would probably ride with me more but my passenger seat sucks and i can't afford to buy a better one. We're going to get a larger bike with a better stock seat when i pay off my vstar in a year so we'll probably get more long range rides done. I'll look at that net sight lonestarrider.net. I hear west texas is a hell of a nice ride. well i'll talk at ya'all later.. hawg gone for now.....

RE: Got a taste of some cold weather riding....

1st off forget the mink oil on the gloves during winter, it just hardens and doesn't make any difference on the cold fingers. I looked into electric gear and man what an investment. Therefore i am back to low tech, Ride Slow2004 has the right idea. I wear long johns and extra inserts under my leathers. My fingers still get really cold though, also my toes suffer. I bought some ski gloves but they flunked the test, the ski head cover did pass though. I tried some glove insulators but they didn't work. I'm going to try some mittens over my gloves and see what happens. Meanwhile it's dropped below 30 degrees here for several days, so i'm in my truck for a little bit. Hawg gone.....

RE: Tires

When you do your research you'll find that a few of the tire makers are making tires with dual treds (hard in the middle for high mileage and soft on the sides for cornering. Also if you find a tire with a deep tread it will usually last longer. I guess i'm lucky or something because my 650 gets at least 12k to 14k out of a rear tire and 25k+ for a front tire. I've stopped buying from stealers, I also take my tire/wheels to the stealer not the whole bike. Doing this they only charge me half the labor. That's all for now.. Hawg gone.
